Imagine this: you are so locked in your technological bubble that your only human connection is an app likeChatroulettecallHello Stranger. Suddenly, a masked guy with a distorted voice hacks into your house, blocks all the exits and says:“Play or die”. Welcome to Cam's most fucked up day, the protagonist ofHello Stranger, an FMV thriller that mixes the worst of your nightmares withBlack Mirrorand a touch ofThe Game of Fear…but with crappy minigames that could kill you laughing (or scared).
FMV? Oh really? Yes and this time it works
Okay, I admit it: When I hear “FMV” (Full Motion Video), I still think of those '90s games with acting that's stiffer than a selfie stick and dialogue that sounds like it was written by a bot. ButPaul Raschid(the director behindThe ComplexandFive Dates) has given a twist to the genre. There are no tacky greenscreens or ridiculous monologues here: the scenes are well shot, the actors sweat genuine anguish, and Cam's smart home feels as claustrophobic as your room after three days of quarantine.
I think we are facing a new golden age of FMVs (if there ever was one and you can call it that). We already had several recent exponents with outstanding results in terms of quality, although it is still a niche genre.
The cast of Hello Stranger is luxurious:George Blagden(the Athelstan ofVikings) plays Cam with a mix of vulnerability and desperation that makes you scream at the screen“DON’T CHOOSE THAT, IDIOT!”. And not to mentionDerek Jacobi(yes, the one fromGladiator). Even the neighbor's cat has more charisma than some AAA game protagonists.

Gameplay: Choose, play, die (and repeat)
The core ofHello StrangerIt's simple: you make decisions for Cam while a sadistic hacker forces him to playthree rounds of gamesto survive. Sounds easy, right? Well no. because here"play"It can mean from a duelrock-paper-scissorseven a game ofFlappy Birdwith controls more irresponsible than a monkey with a controller.
🎮 Game Mode vs. Cinema Mode:
- If you want to sweat like in a Dark Souls, chooseGame Mode: 16 mini-games that test your reflexes (and your patience). Do you like platform games with drunk duck physics? Here they are! Do you prefer to solve mathematical puzzles under pressure? Also! Of course, some minigames are so random that winning or losing depends more on luck than on your skill.
- If you just want drama without challenges, theCinema Modees tu rollo: solo tomas decisiones narrativas, como en una peli interactiva.

Story: Digital paranoia with twists (and some holes)
¿Absurdo? Sí. ¿Divertido? También.

What triumphs
And what gives cramp

Conclusion: Is it worth playing?
Y si no… siempre puedes volver a tu casanointeligente. Por si acaso 😉
