What is the worst thing that can happen to a video game?... Well, without a doubt we would say, that it is not fun... And this is where Resident Evil Village It works, and it works very well.

To understand the eighth part of this saga we have to analyze it from a trilogy perspective, rely on the revolutionary and terrifying nature of its seventh installment and take stock of the brave changes that the guys from Capcom by taking this long history to where it is today...

How do so many years of resident? Do certain playable nuances work?… The first person, which undoubtedly suits this genre great, and how to transfer the magic of the saga (jokes aside) to this delirious first-person story that draws on the best of the essence of, for us one of the best residentResident Evil 4…They are very notable…

The restart of an idea based on two very marked points

First person horror shooter and a fucking smoke of history that after savoring it leaves you intoxicated by its atmosphere, sometimes somewhat simplistic in the playability, but without a doubt transferred to the fact that any little person can enjoy it without exceeding the playable time and its difficulty. Great decision if you are not a purist of this zombie/mushroom/vampire madness epic…

Capcom's good-guy mixer works remarkably in this new way of telling the usual story. Perhaps moving away from what was experienced in its predecessor in terms of the terrifying has generated mixed feelings, but without a doubt, after finishing it, we can say that it is a great game, it makes you feel that if after its ninth installment, closing this trilogy, they take risks again, we are faced with an endless number of great video games without doubting their notable impact on the genre and on our desires for improvement and creativity...

Without further ado, we leave you the aspects dissected into typical blocks of an analysis that this installment has left us.

History and narrative

We all know that Umbrella gum as a plot thread and the zombie infection is already twistedly stretched, but surprisingly and with the use of horror clichés such as werewolves, vampires, monsters from the depths, possessed dolls, etc., this Village He manages to reinvent himself by doing an exercise in overwhelming contortionism, bordering on the surreal and sometimes almost comical, but with very good sensations.

The story and the character of Ethan Winters, once the latter is finished, leaves a very good taste in the mouth and an atypical hero in certain traits that you end up feeling real and even exciting...

Creativity and innovation

In this aspect more focused on creating new formulas, Resident Evil Village picks up the baton of his predecessor, improving in the spectacular, exaggerating the Hollywood its playable approach. He does not create absolutely anything new, even that lack of desire to move forward and be creative makes this aspect one of his Achilles heels. Honestly, we weren't expecting anything super creative, the terrifying thing already did that RE7 with the jump to the first person.

Graphics and technology

One of its most brutal aspects, it is a delight to see it work in all the varied environments that the adventure proposes. Its performance in the last generation is very notable without having experienced a single error, despite some drop in frames. Super detailed environments almost to the point of sickness and an excellent setting that elevate this aspect almost to the outstanding, great job on the part of Capcom.

Gameplay

This is where this has failed us the most. Village, a game that errs on the side of wanting to be too much mainstream and focused on the general public, it is a good horror shooter and you have epic moments inside your gunplay, but the lack of ingenuity in its puzzles (damn, they almost give them to you) and it is a very guided adventure, with little intention of the exploration becoming, in a good way, tedious, mark a gameplay that suits it halfway well, frenetic and sometimes simple.

We finished it in about 13 hours and it has been a great journey, it is very replayable and opens up many options when finishing a first game.

Another aspect that affects its playability is the drop in TERROR in its approach, being more "comfortable" to play it without giving you a cardiac arrest.

Sound and dubbing

There is little to say, the sound setting is incredible and what it makes you feel, sometimes the most terrifying thing about the title is walking around listening to its atmospheres that keep you in a constant state of alert. A high-quality Spanish dubbing with a soundtrack that fits the playable experience like a glove, here the guys at Capcom nail it and know how to understand that in this type of games everything related to the sound/ambiance must be treated with the highest care, and they achieve it with flying colors.

Conclusion

Resident Evil Village It is a great game that in a somewhat macabre and surreal way expands on what we experienced in Resident Evil 7.
