[Meeting…] Erza Scarlet

In the universe of Fairy Tail(a world called Earth Land) magic is the primordial element on which economic and political life depends. In order to control it, guilds of magicians were created, all of them supervised by the Magic Council, in order to maintain balance in the world and take care of the missions entrusted to them. That is to say, we are facing a kind of uchronic feudalism in which elements of capitalist development coexist (the use of certain technology, way of dressing, etc.) with others with medieval roots. In particular, its system of guilds, former professional associations in charge of the training of their members, control of production, etc.

The epicenter of the story is a guild called Fairy Tail, located in Magnolia City, an important commercial enclave in the kingdom of Fiore. Among its members, two stand out initially. The first one to enter the scene is Lucy Heartfilia, a young woman recently arrived at the institution, versed in the art of invoking beings called star spirits through her sets of keys, which she uses for support in combat. Shortly after he makes an appearance Natsu Dragneel, nicknamed “Salamander”, manga hero (with all that this entails in terms of the typical clichés to which Shonen protagonists are subject) and bearer of the powers of the fire dragon (Dragon Slayer). Also worthy of mention is his winged, talking, blue cat called happy, and Gray Fullbuster, a serious and somewhat reserved guy, specialized in the ice arts and rival of Natsu (thus fulfilling the quota of the hero's typical rival who acts as an incentive for him to become even stronger), who has the peculiarity of undressing completely free of charge. To this we must add another character who appeared a little later but who enjoyed great charisma and popularity among fans. It is about Erza Scarlet(or Elsa, in the Spanish truction), to whom I will dedicate this week's space.

The strongest woman in Fairy Tail

Elsa Scarlet (more commonly called Erza, being more faithful to the transliteration of Eruza Sukāretto in Japanese) is a young magician of about 19 years old with reddish hair, brown eyes and a quite graceful physique (although that last one is not at all unusual in the Fairy Tail guild, which seems to make a selection based on your bra size) who wears a armor most of the time.

Of serious and haughty gesture, this character stands out from the rest of the protagonists and members of Fairy Tail in general. Above all, it is famous for itsenormous strength, something that was evident in his effective first appearance in chapter 10 of the manga, when he brought with him a gigantic horn of a demon that he had defeated in a previous mission and that, to make matters worse, he carried with one hand. This fact, added to the fact that the mere news of his return had filled everyone present with fear and concern, makes us assume that we are facing someone incredibly powerful.

Indeed, it will not take long for us to know that it is the strongest woman in all of Fairy Tail, and, as such, belongs to the category of S class mages, that is, those who are far above ordinary magicians and can afford to choose the most difficult and risky missions. This, added to its stern and relentless personality, always willing to inflexibly enforce the guild's rules (in stark contrast to the lenient and benevolent Master Makarov, who usually gives his subordinates a wide berth) will make it feared by most of her peers. Natsu and Gray themselves, always engaged in fights caused by their absurd rivalry, will pretend to be inseparable friends when she is around. Because of this, he is the best person to appease the group and make it more functional, and in fact, since his emergence in history, The most normal thing is that they, in addition to Lucy, form a group on the missions they undertake..

Despite what has been said, it has a deep sense of loyalty towards his guild and his companions. Her long years within the organization have made her forge bonds with Natsu and Gray, since They have known each other since, when she was still a child, she entered Fairy Tail.. Due to her traumatic past, full of violence and deprivation, she initially chose to isolate herself and be hostile towards others, but eventually became very close to them, in part thanks to Gray caring about her when he barely knew her. La fuerza bruta y el temperamento fuerte por sí solos son insuficientes para obtener la victoria en los encarnizados combates que se libran en la serie. Si bien es toda una especialista en el combate cuerpo a cuerpo (lo cual incluye tanto la esgrima como las artes marciales), Erza cuenta con una técnica muy especial que sirve de complemento perfecto para estas habilidades. Con la ayuda de sus poderes mágicos, es capaz de cambiar de armadura en apenas un instante para adaptarse a las necesidades de la batalla.

Son muchas las que luce a lo largo de la aventura, y todavía más las que asegura tener en su repertorio (llega a aventurar que posee unas cien), por lo que no puedo detenerme a enumerar todas, y mucho menos a describirlas en detalle. Además de su armadura principal que lleva a todas partes (armadura de Corazón Kreuz, fabricada por la marca de moda femenina más popular a petición de la propia Elsa), algunas armaduras la otorgan la capacidad de volar, así como de atacar a distancia, ya sea lanzando a los adversarios cerca de doscientas espadas, como es el caso de la Armadura del Cielo, o empleando aquellos elementos en los que se especialice el equipo en cuestión, como por ejemplo las llamas en el traje Emperatriz del Fuego, la electricidad para la armadura Emperatriz del Rayo o el agua para la armadura del mismo nombre. Además, ese tipo de armaduras minimiza los daños producidos por los ataques de los portadores de dichos elementos, como se vio cuando se enfrentó contra Natsu para anular su poder de fuego. Otras le permiten amplificar sus habilidades, ya sea el ataque (armadura de Alas Negras), la defensa (armadura Hercúlea) o la velocidad (Armadura de Vuelo). Debido a esto, se ha ganado el sobrenombre de Erza the Titania.

Esta capacidad de cambiar de vestimenta no sólo es aplicable al combate, sino a su vida cotidiana. Así, utiliza su magia para cosas tan triviales como ponerse el pijama,la ropa de cocinera o de obrera de la construcción. También deja vía libre al fanservice (del que, dicho sea de paso, la serie va bien servida), no sólo durante el proceso de transformación, sino en los mismos trajes que pueda ponerse. Por ejemplo, cuando un periodista le preguntó cuál es su vestimenta favorita de todas las que tiene, respondió (de forma totalmente gratuita) el de conejita “porque las orejas son muy bonitas”.

Conclusion and recommendations

Erza Scarlet es la mujer más poderosa del gremio mágico Fairy Tail. Su fuerza es portentosa y tiene muy mal carácter, aunque se irá apaciguando paralelamente a la evolución de los acontecimientos, al tiempo que se torna más humana. Su gran valentía, arrojo y lealtad son otras de sus principales virtudes. Pero lo que realmente marca la diferencia en situaciones difíciles es el empleo de una amplia gama de armaduras que es capaz de ponerse en un instante gracias a su magia, que la confieren un poder redoblado de distintas maneras en función del tipo que se trate.

A quien le interesen interesan los mangas Shonen de aventuras y grandes dosis de acción, combates y fanservice y quieran darle una oportunidad para conocer mejor a Elsa y al resto de personajes de la serie, recomiendo que echen un vistazo a los primeros capítulos del sleeve para ver si os engancha.
