The fifth film jurassic park (or the second of Jurassic World) is about to hit theaters (in fact, it may have already arrived when you read these lines) so I have decided to return to this section to comment Jurassic World.

In this section I already commented on the original film that started the saga, jurassic park and not long ago I did an article about the game Lego Jurassic World, so Spielberg's prehistoric saga already has some weight on this website.

Gray and Zatch Mitchell's parents are filing for divorce. So that the children are not affected, they are sent for a week to Jurassic World, a successful dinosaur theme park where their aunt Claire works, who cannot attend to them because she is convincing the shareholders that The new dinosaur created by mixing DNA from dinosaurs and animals will increase visits to the park, which have been decreasing after the initial impact. That new dinosaur is the Indominus Rex and it mixes DNA from dinosaurs and animals, being huge, intelligent and very dangerous.

Simon Masrani, the new owner of the park, convinces Claire to have the enclosure where the new dinosaur is located because he fears it could escape. Owen is in charge of training the velociraptors. and he shows a lot of compassion for these beings, as well as a great knowledge of their behavior, which earns him Simon's sympathy.

While the two boys enjoy the attractions, the Indominus tricks the workers and manages to escape, wreaking chaos in the modern park and destroying all the other dinosaurs without anything being able to stop him.

[HorrorScience] Jurassic World (2015) — The kids enjoying the new park

Jurassic World puts all the meat on the grill again to try to make something moderately good and I think it succeeds, becoming (for now) the second best film of jurassic park (something I don't think anyone doubts).

The first thing I want to say, or thank, is that this film is not a remake. It is true that due to the time that has passed between the events of this film and those of the previous ones, it could well be considered a remake (the only character that returns is Dr. Wu, who appeared briefly in the first film) but the truth is that it is not a remake, they could have done it, but they preferred to continue the story, assume everything before had happened and put the film together from there.

That may not be important, but it satisfies me, it is something very simple to do and it even enriches the film, but for some reason many times the option is taken to “use the brand and discard its history” (there you have the last film of Ghostbusters).

Obviously, anyone with half a brain will see that This movie bears a striking resemblance to the original. and there are characters who fulfill cliché roles that seem to be obligatory in these films, but I would say that it is part of what is expected.

I would also like to say that the children are not insufferable (in fact they are less insufferable than those in the first film) and that is something that many films do not achieve. Also, they don't get carried away by the drama of their parents' separation throughout the movie, they have their moment and then focus on survival (which is tremendously logical).

One of the most striking things is the variety of dinosaurs in this film, much superior to what was seen in the previous ones, although many of them appear in a single scene and are forgotten forever (or appear only as holograms), giving minutes again to the dinosaurs that already had their moment of glory in the previous ones: the velociraptors (which in all of them have a lot of weight), the Tyrannosaurus (which is constant, except in Jurassic Park III), and even the Pteranodons (which had their moment of glory in Jurassic Park III and here they return to make the prehistoric version of The birds by Hitchcock). It's a shame to see that dinosaurs like Triceratops have gone four movies without doing anything notable. Obviously the dinosaur with the most minutes and best scenes is the Indominus Rex, but that seems totally logical to me.

I don't think it's necessary to say it, but the special effects are still very good, it's possibly the only section where this saga hasn't stumbled in any of its four films (and I doubt they'll stumble in the fifth).

Obviously nothing is perfect and there are always things that squeak with more or less force. I clarify that I liked the film at the time and today I saw it again and I maintain my positive opinion, although I can't help but think that a couple of simple changes would have made it better.

The first thing that strikes me is that this movie tries to make some kind of romance between Claire and Owen. I know in these movies There is an unwritten law that forces you to engage in some kind of romance (remember that in jurassic park Alan and Ellie were a couple, even though they weren't in the book, in The Lost World, we had Malcolm and his girlfriend and in Jurassic Park III the marriage that dragged Grant to the island). I suppose this is done to please the public who wants to see “couple” moments (saving each other, not tolerating each other but then loving each other) that we have seen a million times. I don't judge that audience for wanting to see this type of thing, but perhaps a dinosaur movie is not the most appropriate place, although as we know that matters little, they just get involved (as they do in 9 out of 10 movies).

The romance is so forced that even though they tell us that both characters knew each other before and didn't get along, there is no reason for them to really end up together and I don't even think there is any kind of chemistry between the two actors. I think it's the stupidest thing I've ever seen, on the level of express romances like the one that happens in The Army of Darkness. The relationship between Owen and the velociraptors is better done than between Owen and Claire, how curious.

Fortunately both characters olvidan los momentos de pareja durante la mayor parte de la película (obviamente, la supervivencia es lo primero), y eso es lo que me lleva a preguntarme: ¿Qué necesidad había de meter el romance si en ningún momento es relevante? ¿Se incluyó la idea de que fuesen pareja a última hora? En fin, decisiones de ricos.

Tampoco me termina de gustar el cambio que hace el Dr Wu durante la película, pero claro, puede ser un personaje clave para futuras películas, así que tiene sentido que sea el nuevo Dennis Nedry.

Y dejamos a los humanos de lado y nos centramos en lo importante: los dinosaurios.

Quizás mi principal queja con esta película es el Indominus Rex, y no me refiero a que me parece demasiado que sea ultra inteligente (se arranca el chip, evita los sensores, engaña a los trabajadores) ni a que sea una amalgama de animales y dinosaurios, ni a que salga muchísimos minutos en la película. Lo que me molesta de este dinosaurio es algo tan superficial como su diseño.

No me gusta, veo el típico dinosaurio carnívoro con cuatro pinchitos aquí y allá y poco más, casi podría definirlo como un Rex con las manos grandes. Supongo que es lo esperable, pero si tenía ADN de tantísimas cosas (de hecho, nunca se dicen todos los animales que lo componen) al menos podrían haberle puesto unos cuernos o un color más llamativo. Creo que el Spinosaurios de Jurassic Park III es mucho más intimidante.

Respecto a los velociraptores, he de decir que cuando me enteré que en esta película “estaban domesticados” me llevé las manos a la cabeza, y es que hay que admitir que el concepto es horrible por sí mismo. Sin embargo en la película está bastante bien llevado (quiero decir, si te obligan a incluir algo así, es difícil hacerlo mejor). Eso significa (tal y como dije más arriba) que los raptores roban muchísimos minutos de película. ¿Quién quiere ver otros dinosaurios cuando puedes volver a ver los mismos?

Tampoco me gusta el aura heroica que le dan al Tiranosaurio (la escena en la que lo sueltan bien podría tener de fondo el tema de superman de John Williams). Obviamente, el Tiranosaurio es genial, pero ha pasado de ser algo temible a ser la salvación de todos. Es un dinosaurio tan explotado que se lo podían haber ahorrado. Habría estado bien verlo pelear con el Indominus Rex durante la película, pero su inclusión en el clímax no me llega a gustar nada. Además, eso de que los raptores y él se alíen como diciendo “sabemos que el Indominus es el malo” es un tanto risible. Afortunadamente, el desenlace de ese duelo es genial y redime lo anteriormente mencionado.

Obviamente hay algunas cosas más que me hacen preguntarme cómo pasaron el visto bueno (escenas en el río con Stegosaurus al lado de gente en canoa; niños jugando con Compsognatus; la batería del coche de jurassic park que dura 20 años intacta y funcional), pero no creo que estropeen la película o quién sabe, quizás solo soy blando con esta película debido a que tenía expectativas muy bajas cuando la vi por primera vez y porque ha logrado traer de vuelta a jurassic park con cierto esplendor.

Curiosidades de la película.

En el año 2002 Spielberg dijo que esta película sería dirigida por Joe Johston (director de Jurassic Park III) algo que finalmente no sucedió, pero demuestra que a Spielberg le debió gustar la tercera parte.
La película se retrasó durante 10 años por motivos varios, ya que estaba pensada para 2005.
Pese a que no aparece el Spinosaurus, sí se ve su esqueleto y casualmente lo destruye Tiranosaurio (recordemos que el Spinosaurus derrotaba al Rex en la tercera parte).
El libro de Ian Malcolm “God Creates Dinosaurs” se puede ver en algunos momentos de la película.
El Tiranosaurio es el mismo que aparecía en la película original, si os fijáis tiene las cicatrices que le hicieron los raptores al final de Jurassic Park.
