Confronted, developed by Grumpy Rock Studios, is a first-person horror game that places you in the dark and mysterious castle of Radu. This title, which for now only has its first chapter, was added not so long ago to the offer of survival and horror experiences available on Steam (beingThe Mute Houseone of the most recent and that I liked the most).
The gameplay of Confronted It focuses on one main mechanic: building makeshift shelters to hide from the creatures that inhabit the castle. There are no weapons or direct combat; Survival depends on your ability to hide and move stealthily. This design decision may be interesting to some players, while others might miss more varied interaction options.
Radu Castle serves as the game's main setting. The developers have created an environment that seeks to convey a feeling of constant threat. Dark hallways and detailed rooms try to keep the player on their toes. The level design goes out of its way to make the castle feel like an oppressive and dangerous place.
As for the story, Confronted introduces us to an anonymous protagonist who arrives at the castle for initially unknown reasons. As you progress, fragments of information are discovered through scattered notes and recordings. These clues suggest a plot that will develop in future chapters. The first chapter raises several questions, leaving the resolution for later installments.
The game's narrative is designed to complement the gameplay. As you explore the castle and discover more about its history, the building and stealth mechanics take on context within the plot. The player not only hides to survive, but also tries to unravel the mystery surrounding the castle.
Regarding progression, Confronted Choose not to introduce new tools or skills as you progress. Instead, the game requires the player to adapt and improve their strategies with the limited resources available. This decision seeks to maintain a feeling of constant vulnerability.
Visually, Confronted It features an artistic style that fits the atmosphere of the castle. Lighting effects play an important role in creating atmosphere, using shadows to create tension. Although it does not stand out for its technical advance, the graphic section fulfills its function within the horror genre.

It is important to mention that some players have pointed out that the lack of combat and the exclusive reliance on stealth and building mechanics can feel repetitive for some. The reception of this feature will largely depend on the individual preferences of each player. For now, looking at its reviews on Steam, the game's reception is positive.
In my case, I usually like to play games where I have to hide, but I don't like the constant "harassment" of characters that don't let me explore in peace if I have no way to eliminate them. As an example: I hatedSilent Hill 4, despite the fact that the story and its images seem very good to me, precisely because of the constant harassment of the specters in the game, which also become more and more aggressive as you progress.
In this case it is not so, and part of the fun of this game is hiding, so there is no problem. However, you should keep this in mind if you are interested in playing it. Building shelters and hiding is key here, and just because you're in shelter never means you're completely safe.

Dark Rock Studios has already confirmed that they plan to release more chapters to complete the story of Confronted. This means that the current experience is only one part of a larger narrative that will be revealed over time. For some players, this may be an incentive to follow the game's evolution, while others might prefer to wait for the story to be complete before investing their time.
The truth is that it bothers me a little to start a game and not be able to finish it, having to wait months or even years to have it complete. I usually end up losing interest. It's like watching a series on Netflix, that you like, but that it stays there in the first season, and years go by and it's still there (it's happened to me with more than one already...)
In summary, Confronted It is one more option within the first-person horror genre. Its gameplay proposal focused on stealth and building shelters may be attractive to some players, while others may find it limited. As the first chapter in a larger story, the game lays the foundation for what is to come, leaving it to future releases to fully realize its potential.
