Welcome to a new section of ComboGamer, this time focused on the world of comics.
The idea of this section is to briefly and simply introduce people of greater or lesser fame who come from the world of comics or have a strong relationship with it. Thus, the article will briefly tell the origin of the character, his history, skills, curiosities and, if possible, some recommendations in case someone has been interested in him when reading the article.
In this section all types of characters have a place (both alone and in a group) because I am not going to follow any specific criteria to select them, which I find much more fun and surprising.
As you may have seen from the title, The one who will premiere this section is Groot, a character who has been largely unknown to many for decades, but who today is tremendously popular thanks to his appearance in the film of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I'm Groot, from Planet
Groot, the kind extraterrestrial tree we have seen in the pages (and movie) of Guardians of the Galaxy, It actually has a darker origin than many believe., since his first appearance was as an enemy of humanity.
The intentions of Groot, Monarch of PlanetTales to Astonish number 13, 1960) where he wanted to capture humans, experiment on them and invade the planet, a tremendously typical argument and widely used in dozens of stories from those years, but equally valid for this giant tree, whose appearance was quite rough and simple compared to today.
His next appearances took him to Fight against some of the most famous Marvel heroes, like for example Hulk, with whom he would exchange phrases and blows in equal measure, because yes, the original Groot spoke fluently, or at least more fluently than the current Groot.

Groot's return

After missing for many years, someone within Marvel decided to remember this forgotten character and bring him back in Annihilation: Conquest, where the particular nature of this alien serves a good purpose by helping his new companions with his sacrifice, just to show that can sprout again through a small part of it, a characteristic that has been represented on more than one occasion.
Another curious ability of this version of Groot is to grow to an exaggeratedly large size if it takes root in the right place and the situation requires it, which increases its durability and strength, and therefore its usefulness within the group to which it currently belongs, the new ones. Guardians of the Galaxy, where he will establish a great friendship with Rocket Raccoon.
This new Groot is not as talkative as the old one, since his conversation is usually limited to “I am Groot” which can make him seem like a stupid character, when in reality he has great intelligence that should not be underestimated.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Groot is a very interesting character, his origin as an alien invader is laughable but endearing, he transports us to that time where everything had to do with aliens experimenting on humans. Its current version is one of the best recoveries of forgotten characters that I remember seeing recently, as demonstrated by the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which in turn is also a new formation of an old Marvel group, which gives the company two successes in a row.
If you like this character, the most obvious recommendation is to read the collection of Guardians of the Galaxy where he appears with the rest of the team or his participation in Annihilation: Conquest. But if you want to see the original Groot you will have to go back to much older stories where he appears as a sporadic villain, or the aforementioned Tales to Astonish number 13, donde el personaje apareció por primera vez.
Por supuesto, también es recomendable ver la película de Guardians of the Galaxy, aunque doy por hecho que muchos de los que estáis leyendo esto ya la habéis visto.
