One of the most mythical sagas of the fighting genre is Mortal Kombat, which rose to fame due to the bad press (and morbidity) that caused its explicit violence to sprites of digitized fighters (which increased realism).

Mortal Kombat It is a saga that has suffered many ups and downs, some of them caused by disastrous decisions and others by risking doing different things instead of repeating the same game by adding 3 or 4 more characters. He Mortal Kombat original wasn't much, but it served as a basis for Mortal Kombat II which is one of the most popular and fun. Mortal Kombat 3 It was a brutal change in the way of playing and eliminated many of the classic characters, which resulted in negative feedback that was fixed with the version Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which added classic characters and polished the playable section, resulting in one of the best Mortal Kombats that exist. Unfortunately its continuation (Mortal Kombat Trilogy) despite including many characters, it was a playable nonsense in terms of balance.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy It had many characters but no balance between them

Mortal Kombat 4 It was a fiasco (and his version MK Gold It wasn't anything to write home about either) so the saga lost the little shine and popularity it had left at the same time it made the leap to 3 dimensions. That fact caused two good games (Mortal Kombat V and Mortal Kombat Deception) passed without pain or glory despite having notable quality. Finally we meet Mortal Kombat Armageddon, where absolutely all the characters of the saga (and some new ones) come together in a game that does not reach the quality of the previous ones, but is still interesting. The swan song of this series came with Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe, an impossible crossover between superheroes and fighters from the saga that was affected in its development by the economic crisis that had been affecting Midway for years and that ended up causing the company to disappear.

Template Mortal Kombat (Remake)

A few years later, those in charge of the saga (Ed Boon, Dan Forden, John Vogel and Carlos Pesina) returned to the present with a new development team called NetherRealm Studios, ready to make a new Mortal Kombat latest generation. That game was released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2011 (and later had a version for PSVITA and Windows), and although its official name is simply Mortal Kombat, is also known as Mortal Kombat remake, Mortal Kombat 9 either Mortal Kombat 2011, to avoid being confused with the first game in the saga.

Classic fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero

The most curious thing about this game is that despite being a remake (it tells us again the events that happened in the first three games) it fits perfectly with what happened in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, where all the characters in the saga fought to the death for the fate of the world. In this new game we see how Raiden Mortal Kombat Armageddon is about to die before his eternal rival Shao Kahn, and in view of his disastrous fate, he decides use his powers to send a message to himself in the past, which will change history and will prevent Shao Khan from being the overlord of the whole.

Raiden will change history due to his hallucinations

So, during the story mode of Mortal Kombat (represented as if it were a movie) we see young Raiden seeing hallucinations that will make him doubt his judgment and that he will interfere in the story by making dubious and unjustifiable decisions. In that way, NetherRealm Studios gives us the chance to see the first games, but with some notable changes.

We can control Cyrax and Sektor as humans or as Cyborgs
