After having dedicated a joint article to the first film of Shark and subsequently commented in this section Shark 2 and Jaws 3 – The Great Shark, now the time has come to close the saga with the last film: Jaws The Revenge, or what is the same Shark Revenge.

Almost 30 years have passed since this fourth part was released, so we can be pretty sure that Universal Studios will not make a fifth, although of course, that does not assure us that tomorrow someone will have the terrible idea of making a remake of the first, something that I hope does not happen.

The film begins by showing us that Christmas has arrived on Amity Island and Ellen Brody (widow of Police Chief Martin Brody) is preparing the house to celebrate it with her family. His youngest son Sean Brody, who has decided to follow in his father's footsteps, has to go out to remove some logs that are near the pier and could cause problems for approaching boats.

That will be the last time Ellen sees her youngest son, because while he was trying to remove the logs a huge white shark kills Sean and magically disappears. He shock What Ellen suffers is so strong that He begins to have absurd ideas, such as that the shark seeks revenge for the events that occurred years ago, where members of the Brody family killed the other killer sharks.

In order to calm and help his mother, Mike Brody decides to let her go live with him and his family, thus preventing her from getting carried away with her paranoia and conspiracy theories about vengeful sharks. Ellen's new home will be in the Bahamas, where she will meet the seaplane pilot Hoagie, with whom she will quickly establish a friendship.

Mike Brody worried about his mother's crazy ideas

Unfortunately the damage has already been done in the head of the protagonist, who is trying to prevent her family members from entering the sea, something complicated if we take into account that her son is a marine biologist and works together with his partner Jake in a study on sea shells, on the result of which the professional career of both seems to depend.

During one of his dives, Jake watches as a huge white shark passes by him and goes directly to the boat where Mike is., destroying a piece of it in the process. Due to his mother's paranoia, Mike decides to avoid talking about that event, and he and Jake decide to study the great white shark, for which they stick a device in it that will warn them if it is in the vicinity.

Everything seems to indicate that Ellen Brody's crazy ideas have a sensible and logical basis, since the shark seems to be interested only in the members of his family... will the animal manage to obtain his revenge?

The shark soon makes itself noticed

shark revenge It's as bad a movie as they say. It looks like one of the low-budget copies that were made after the success of the original film, more than a sequel and that's not too good (especially since I think there are copies of Shark better than this movie).

The film is weak in every possible way and except for playing with some original or at least interesting ideas, it is very difficult to see anything good in it, since it is so particular that If they exaggerate a little more, it would seem like a parody more than a sequel.

I have to admit that I like, or rather, I find it very funny, that a supposedly serious film, take as a starting point the fact that the animal seeks revenge for the death of its relatives. Or is it the same shark that returns from hell again and again? I find this absurd premise fascinating, although it could hardly fit within the Jaws saga, since the concept is more typical of the movies. SharkXplotation of these days.

Ellen Brody is totally obsessed with the shark

Now, I think there is a way to make this exceptional vengeful shark, capable of recognizing a member of the Brody family from miles away and even roar, fit into the saga, but to do so would have to sacrifice Ellen Brody's mental stability, since The only way this movie could improve from that base is if Martin Brody's widow had completely lost her mind. after Sean's death and the rest of the film were his paranoia. It sounds absurd, but I think that could have made sense, although the film would certainly continue to be just as bad in other aspects that have nothing to do with the script (despite the fact that this is its worst enemy).

I don't have much more to say about this film, which despite its low quality, can be used to pass the time while taking advantage of the summer. In fact, I have to admit that some scenes are so silly that they can even be enjoyed. Although each time I watch it I feel more disappointed by the shark, which seems to have lost much of its lethality when it comes to killing supporting characters, although who knows, maybe it only goes out of its way to bite if there's a member of the Brody family in its jaws.

Mike, Jake and Hoagie, their faces say it all

Curiosities about the film:

  • Michael Caine admitted that he had not seen the film, but that he knew it was terrible and that he only accepted the role so he could buy a house.
