This past Christmas I spent a lot of time playing Super Smash Bros Brawl, the third episode of this incredible saga started on N64.

Although I still have some trophies and challenges to complete, the good time I have had playing this game has led me to decide to dedicate this article to it.

While it is true that this game was not unknown to me, since I am a great fan of this saga, I admit that when it was released I did not have the Wii, so I was only able to enjoy it in isolation at a friend's house, so I was not able to appreciate it in depth.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl continues with the ascent started in Super Smash Bros Melee in terms of visual quality and increase in options and characters. Everything that was added in Melee (Trophies, stadium mode, challenges, unlockables, adventure mode...) has been maintained and increased significantly. Adventure mode has been the winner in this improvement, as it took everything good from what appeared in the previous game and expanded it significantly, adding an almost apocalyptic story told by animated scenes where the characters unite and fight each other. In addition, this mode includes a multitude of secrets and will allow us to improve the characters using stickers that we will unlock, which will entertain us for almost a dozen hours.

Other game modes and options are also added, such as creating scenarios, online play, fighting bosses or playing classic NES, SNES and N64 games, although limited to a minute or a little more (wouldn't it have been better to include an entire phase of each game instead of limiting it to such a short time?). The musical section has also increased incredibly and now there are even songs sung.

We will know the history of Nintendo through the trophies

The roster of fighters has increased again in this game by adding: Pit (Kid Icarus) Samus Zero Suit (Metroid) Pokemon Trainer and Lucario (Pokémon) Wario (Mario Bros), Dedede and Meta Knight (kirby) Ike (Fire Emblem), Toon Link (Zelda) Lucas (Earthbound), Olimar (Pikmin) Wolf (starfox), Diddy Kong (donkey kong), R.O.B The Robot (former NES peripheral) and for the first time, two characters outside of Nintendo: Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog) and Solid Snake (metal gear).

Character selection

Some characters from the previous game thus disappear, such as Mewtwo (although Lucario has some similar attacks), Dr Mario (a lesser evil, since the character was a variant of Mario), Young Link (who has been replaced by Toon Link), Pichu (a reduced and kamikaze version of Pikachu) and Roy (who was a variant of Marth).

The fact that some clones disappeared and new ones were introduced is something curious. For those who don't know, clones are characters that are made based on an existing one with which they share basic and special attacks (like Toon Link and Link). Normally these characters have some difference in terms of strength and speed and some of their attacks have been modified so that they act differently from one character to another. At first glance the clones seem to be exactly the same (except for the appearance of the character) but the truth is that there are notable differences in them (for example, in Super Smash Bros Melee, Marth and Roy were clones, but Marth is one of the best characters in the game competitively and Roy is one of the worst).

I have to admit that I am happy to say that some characters that were clones have been differentiated a little more and that the added ones (like Lucas) have some differences, although deep down they are still just that, clones.

Unfortunately, the baton of the winds is only a mockery.

However, it seems to me that they have made a mistake again by including two Links that have the same special attacks, especially due to the enormous number of items that could have been included to differentiate them. Unfortunately we won't see Toon Link use the new items he got in Zelda: Wind Waker (like the Deku blade), he will simply fight with the same weapons as Link, but with differences in range, speed and damage, a shame.

Some veteran characters have been modified and new attacks have been added (Mario now uses the ACUAC of Super Mario Sunshine) or modifying the ones they already had (Luigi can now charge his Green Torpedo attack infinitely and it is no longer so easy to commit suicide using it, although now his Super Jump Punch leaves him “sold out” when he falls, as he hits his head on the ground and takes longer to get up) in addition to obtaining some concrete improvement in the character himself (now Luigi can walk while crouched) or by using objects (now when you charge the strong shot of the Super Scope you can move).

Although the main novelty when it comes to fighting is what gives us the Smash Ball object, which tras ser golpeada hará que nuestro personaje brille en color rojo y cuando presionemos el botón de ataque hará su Smash Final.
