Reading time: 9 minutes

The genre ofgraphic adventuresIt has always been a somewhat limited area for computers. machines likeAmiga, Atari ST and especially the PC, they benefited from a genre in which narrative comes far ahead of fast gameplay.

Although in smaller numbers, graphic adventures have not been foreign to consoles, for this reason, we are going to see five good examples of the genre that appeared outside the domains of the keyboard and mouse. Some are even exclusive to this type of entertainment systems.

King's Quest: Quest for the Crown for Master System

kingsquest_ms

The famous adventure saga, created byRoberta Williams,King's Quest, had a couple of appearances on consoles. The first delivery,King's Quest: Quest for the Crown, appeared in 1989 on the consoleSega Master Systemand, curiously, it was an exclusive launch for the American market, a place where Sega's 8bit was hardly successful.

King's Quest: Quest for the Crownwas developed byMicrosmithswith theParker Brothersacting as publishers. It is an adaptation of the classic 1984 computer game, in which the brave Sir Graham must find a series of objects in order to become the new king of the place.

As we say, since it is an adaptation to consoles,The game had to be modified in several aspects. The most important was the adaptation of classic keyboard and mouse controls to the Sega console pad. And the truth is that the change was quite positive, achieving a more than satisfactory result in terms of control. On the other hand, although the essence of the original has been greatly respected, the technical section also underwent many changes, adapting to the technical capabilities of the Master System.

A great conversion of this classic, although it was not the only one in this mythical saga. About three years later, the fifth installment of the series,King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder, also landed on a console, but this time in theNintendo NES. And it was not until 2015 when we saw a new installment that also debuted on the consoles of that time.

Maniac Mansion for Nintendo NES

maniacmansion_nes

This is without a doubt one of the most curious cases we have found. That wonderful madness created byLucasArtsfor computers and callManiac Mansion, also found its place in Nintendo's 8bit console. On the one hand, we have a launch ofJalecoin 1988 for the Japanese market, on the other hand, Jaleco itself released another game in 1990 for the Western market. The funny thing is that they are different games, but, of course, we are left with theManiac Mansionthat we receive here.

Work ofRealtime Associates, thisManiac MansionforNESIt follows the same mechanics as the original for computers, but with some (little) adaptation to the console pad. Thus, we have before us the same SCUMM scheme typical of LucasArts adventures, that is, the classic commands of open, push or speak among others. And honestly, it's a little cumbersome to use the NES pad's D-pad to choose commands, but hey, that's what it's all about.

The story of the Edison family mansion, with its experiments and iconic tentacles, is well known in the world of video games. Well, this NES cartridge perfectly captures the essence of the original, and on top of thatIt came to us with the texts in Spanish, which is appreciated. As against,Maniac Mansion suffered the relentless scissors that Nintendo imposed on its releases.

The Secret of Monkey Island for Mega CD

monkeyisland_mcd

Scooby-Doo Mystery for Mega Drive

scoobydoomystery_md

The Fish Files for Game Boy Color

fishfiles_gbc
