DOOM,WolfensteineitherquakeThese are three examples of FPS sagas, that is, “first person shooters”, the most notable that exists. And they are also one of the best known. That's why today I wanted to talk to you aboutother games of the genre that tiptoed moreand that, in my opinion, it is interesting to give them a try. Let's start!
Quarantine
![[Very top] Five FPS that are not the usual ones](https://combogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/quarantine.png)
We start by cheating a little becauseQuarantine not a typical FPS. Created byImagexcelandGameTek, in this 1994 title we control a taxi driver who lives in the city of KEMO. This city, plagued by crime and disorder, was isolated from the rest of the world by a huge wall.
To complicate matters, the population of KEMO became ill from the contaminated water, becoming deranged murderers due to a virus. Our hero, who has not been affected by this virus, wants to escape from there. To do this you will have to carry passengers and orders throughout the city, meanwhile, you will have to protect yourself thanks to the weapons that your taxi has.
Quarantineit was a launchvery originalwithin the genre. From our taxi we can shoot forward, but alsowe will use the windows to shootany danger that stalks us from the side. This way we will meet certain objectives in each mission, replenishing our strength and unlocking areas of the map to achieve our long-awaited freedom.
The game was initially released forPCand the console3DO, also appearing some time later inPlayStationandsaturn, but these latest versionsThey only stayed in Japan. Alla brown beast on a technical levelfor the time and with a very hooligan and B-series setting,QuarantineIt's a basic if you like the genre. Additionally, it had a sequel calledQuarantine II: Road WarriorPC exclusive.
Marathon
![[Very top] Five FPS that are not the usual ones](https://combogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/marathon.jpg)
Many of you will know the companyBungieas the person responsible for the best games that the series has ever producedHalo, in addition to also being the company that created the sagaDestiny. Well, like all video game developers, Bungie had a past and that past was calledMarathon.
Released in 1994 for computersmacintoshes(yes, the usual MACs),Marathonis a huge spaceship that is attacked by an alien race called the Pfhor. We are a security guard accompanying the ship's crew, and we find ourselves in quite a bind. The two AIs that controlled the ship have gone crazy because of the alien attack, so we will have to find a way to survive.
Marathonis famous for beingthe first FPS that allowed us to move the camera in all directionsthrough the mouse. This was a very important novelty in the approach of the game, opening up a whole range of playable mechanics never before seen in other references of the genre.
William Shatner’s TekWar
![[Very top] Five FPS that are not the usual ones](https://combogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/tekwar_pc.png)
Witchaven
![[Very top] Five FPS that are not the usual ones](https://combogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/witchaven_pc.png)
Last Rites
![[Very top] Five FPS that are not the usual ones](https://combogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/lastrites_pc.png)
